the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, on Tuesday said that the review of the port concession
agreement would be completed in the next three months.
Regional Conference of International Association of Ports and Harbour (IAPH) in Abuja, MS Bala Usman said the purposes of the concession which was done in 2006 had not been achieved.
She explained that this was because the Nigerian
ports were still poorly rated after 12 years of concession.
The managing director, who is the Vice President, International
Association of Ports and Harbour (IAPH) said the review of the agreement which started
since would be over in the next three months.
She said, “ We have an inter-agency which has all the agencies of
government that are part of the concessioning process.
“Also included in the review of the concession process
are the Office of the Attorney-General, Bureau of Public Enterprises,
Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Federal Ministry of Power,
Works and Transportation, NPA and technical support from World Bank.
“Nigeria should expect a supplementary agreement that
will be signed with the concessionaires.”
Many industry stakeholders, icluding terminal operators and regulators have also advocated the need to
review the port concession agreement.
