Delta politician advocates good governance for economic growth

By Nathaniel Obruthe

A gubernatorial aspirant in Delta, Mr. Sunny Ofehe,  has attributed the economic hardship in the country to bad governance.

Ofehe, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) , made the observation on Monday while speaking with journalists at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Warri Correspondents Chapel.

He said that the economic hardship would  persist until there was attitudinal change among the leaders.

According to the philanthropist, the leaders need to have change in mindset and focus more on politics of ideologies rather than “money bag politics.”

He said his core areas of focus if elected as the State governor would be: Education, Maritime, Health, Agriculture, Security and industrialisation.

Ofehe who described education as bedrock of the economic development of any nation, said that the youth must be given the opportunity to have access to good and affordable education.

“The youth shall be given the opportunity to acquire skills and vocational training in schools so that they can be self reliant and contribute meaningfully to the economy.

“We will ensure zero tolerance on crime through digital intelligence policing and that by extension will attract investors into our State.

“We will  also take advantage of the abundant mineral resources in the state to create jobs and also boost the economy,” he said.

Ofehe  noted that food production was key to providing basic needs of the people, adding the vast arable land in the State would be utilised to create jobs and also ensure food sufficiency.

“We shall support local farmers to produce agricultural products and also assist them with storage facilities.

” The farmers will also have access to fertilizer and credit facilities to boost production,” he said.

Ofehe, who declared his intention to run for the Guber race on July 7, in Isoko, however, said that the current misunderstanding in the APC in Delta would soon be resolved.
