The Lagos State Government on Friday said it planned to launch 10 new state-of-the-art ferries in addition to existing ones as part of improvement in the intermodal transportation effort.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso stated this at a Joint Citizens/Media Engagement Forum in Alausa, Ikeja.
He said during the year, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will inaugurate 10 ferries in addition to the fifteen launched last year to further enhance transportation and generating social-economic development of the state.
The commissioner praised media organisations in the state for giving necessary feedback to both the citizens and the state government.
“These are very good ferries compared to any ferry that you can find anywhere in the world; these ferries were built by our young engineers.
“They are ferries that do not just stand as means of transportation but also as a symbol of what is possible in Nigeria.
“Very soon, we will be commissioning about 10 of them,” he said.
He noted that the state Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated 15 ferries in the past.
“We will have 25 in total to reduce travel time.
“We have been able to bring together three modes of transportation.”
The commissioner praised media organisations in the state for giving necessary feedback to both the citizens and the state government.
“For me, today is not a day of recounting all those things that you already know.
“It is an opportunity for me to say thank you to you because you have really done well in propagating all the policies and explaining to people all of the things we are doing in this administration,” Omotoso said.
On tourism, he said that state government was taking steps toward ensuring that ‘Detty December’ would get bigger and better.
“You have seen how things went in Lagos during the Yuletide. Today, Lagos is an example of how the world should celebrate the end of the year.
“From October, up to early January, there was one festivity or the other in Lagos. Everybody has been talking about Detty December,” he said.
Mr Omotoso added that the state government had inaugurated about 35 roads and five bridges across the state.
