Policy makers, maritime and allied industry stakeholders to welcome MV OSANYAMO on Friday

 

MV OSANYAMO
Policy makers as well as maritime and allied
industry stakeholders will converge on the city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State
on Friday to welcome MV OSANYAMO owned by Starzs Investment Company Ltd.

Key personalities expected at the event include the
Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, the Group Managing
Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru,
the Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, with a team of top ranking
officers, and Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
Also confirmed to be in attendance is a delegation
from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to represent
the Director General of the agency, Dr Dakuku Peterside, who is on a national
assignment in Geneva.
A marine engineer in Lagos who promised to be in Port Harcourt said he
was happy that  Starzs Group is able to
achieve the feat of building the vessel in spite of the unfriendly  policy the country is running.
“We are all happy. The Starzs Group has delivered a
statement. The audience everywhere can hear it loud and clear. Nigerians are a
highly resourceful people! And we can do far better, under a more conducive
environment”, he stated, speaking on condition of anonymity.
However,
Chairman of Starzs Group, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, who is also the President of the
Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN), could not be reached as his office
responded that he was busy.
Built for Starz Investment Company Limited (SICL),
the newly- built Damen Azimuth Stern Drive Tug 5114, presently the first and
largest of its class, and genuinely generating noteworthy excitements in
Nigeria, is primarily and purposefully built to assist in tanker lifting
operations alongside FPSOs in the Gulf of Guinea, under a contract with Total
Exploration & Production Nigeria limited.
Spectacularly,
the  ASD 5114 is not only the largest in Damen’s tug range to date, at
52.3 meters- length, displacing 800 tonnes; she is also, a state-of–the –art
tug, being a highly maneuverable vessel, fully equipped, for offshore
operation.
Its
features include a 268sqm deck space, at 5tonnes load per m, 2 large fuel and
water tanks; with transfer capability of 115tonnes astern and 110tonnes ahead.
The
double-tier deckhouse provides accommodation for a 14 crew and up to 10
passengers, built in compliance with the requirement of the MLC which came into
effect in 2016.
Propulsion
is via two main ABC16 DZC engines delivering 6,700kw powering twin kort nozzle
thrusters manufactured by Schottel. Additional capabilities include
fire-fighting (FiFI1) and oil recovery operation, with 101m3 of integral oil
recovery tanks.
The MV OSANYAMO is also equipped with a dedicated Pal-finder
water jet driven line handling craft to be used for handling hoses and lines
for cleaning inspection and repairs on the aft deck.
The
MV ‘OSANYAMO’ is set to join the MV ‘OSAYAME’; a Damen ASD 3211 Tug built at
Damen Shipyards Cape Town South Africa, delivered in 22.09.
The
MV ‘OSAYAME’ has impressively maintained a record of 8years of zero downtime
and lost time injury operations.
The
SICL are Ship Owners and Managers, Offshore Marine Services Provider and a
Private Maritime Security Provider, who owns and operates a range of vessels
including terminal tugs and Security Patrol Vessels.
