The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)
Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero has urged stakeholders in the nation’s maritime
industry to collectively strive to reposition its maritime potentials as a
formidable alternative to oil and gas in terms of revenue generation.

He implored stakeholders in the industry to utilise the full
potentials of the industry so as to maximize its benefits; in order to
stimulate the nation’s economic growth.

Ado Bayero made the call while delivering his goodwill
message at the just concluded 5th edition of the Nigeria Maritime
Expo[NIMAREX 2015].

He noted that countries like Egypt and Singapore had fully
taken advantage of and harnessed their maritime potentials to heights that made
them not only high class maritime nations, but that their economy thrive on the
revenue from the maritime sector, adding that Nigeria should do same.

The Managing Director further enjoined stakeholders to look
into the problems of Cabotage, Stevedores, Haulage, Seafaring, Inland Container
Depots [ICDs], infrastructures and others in the sector and proffer solutions to
them.

While commending the theme of the conference which is
Nigeria; ‘’Regenerating Economic Growth through the Maritime Sector’’, Alhaji
Ado Bayero said it could not have come at a better time than now in view of the
dwindling fortune of Oil and Gas revenue in the world market and the urgent
need to identify other alternative revenue sources.

He said he was enthusiastic and excited that the conference
was holding shortly after his assumption of office as the Managing Director of
the NPA, adding that he is optimistic that the conference will emphasize the
important role the Maritime Industry is playing in the nation’s economy.

One of the highlights of the conference was an appreciation
award given to the Managing Director by the Chairman of NIMAREX 2015, Planning Committee,
Prince Ayorinde Adedoyin.

Accompanied by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations
of the Authority, Engr. David Omonibeke, the Managing Director was conducted
round the exhibition stands of participating companies including the Nigerian
Ports Authority (NPA) stand at the end of the occasion.
