Smuggled frozen poultry products totaling 350

The Customs Area Controller in charge of the Command,
Comptroller Umar Yusuf, told newsmen that their patrol team at Yekeme
intercepted the smuggled products at Joforo Creek near Badagry on Jan.27.

products, advised Nigerians against consumption of the frozen poultry products
which he described as ‘unfit’ for human consumption.

Edike who was originally at the command as part
of his tour of some commands in Lagos, warned that the smuggled products were
preserved with dangerous chemicals that was harmful to humans.

“These things are not fit for human consumption
because the preservatives are what they use for preserving human remains, which
will do gradual damage to those who eat them without knowing the dangers.

He encouraged the command to work harder in its
fight against smuggling, especially smuggling in frozen poultry products, to
ensure the smugglers desist from the act.

The ACG tasked the command to continue to be on
top of its game of policing the borders along the coastal areas.

He also encouraged the officers to keep abreast
of activities happenings within their jurisdiction, while they read the books
on the Customs Codes so that they could be better officers.

He urged the officers and men to be alive to the

In the same vein, the Controller disclosed that
the command made 41 different seizures of smuggled products with N72.7 million
DPV in 2015.

the DPV was an approximated 78 per cent increase, as against the total of 30
seizures with a DPV of N28.8 million recorded in 2014.

Giving a breakdown, the Controller said the seized
items in 2015 include 7 tons of scrap metal, 3,226 bags of imported rice, 93
kegs of vegetable oil, 25,750 ltr of petrol.

The other items according to the Controller were
8,581 frozen poultry products, 6 cartons of condensed milk, 23 bottles of wine
