Maritime journalist, Comrade Roland Ekama, has been certified for a leadership role in the Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS, Lagos State Branch, Alimosho Division.
Ekama received his certification on Saturday at the Annual General Meeting, AGM of the Alimosho Division, held in Lagos, alongside other newly certified members.
The newly certified leaders have been tasked with expanding the Society’s humanitarian activities across schools and communities, particularly through increased membership mobilisation and public engagement.
They are also expected to uphold the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement while demonstrating professionalism, discipline and commitment in the discharge of their responsibilities.
For Ekama, the new responsibility also presents an opportunity to deploy his wealth of experience in the media to promote, project and amplify the humanitarian activities of the NRCS at the local, state, national and international levels.
Speaking during the decoration of the newly certified members, the Secretary of the Lagos State Branch of the NRCS, Lasisi Kolawole, expressed confidence in the Alimosho Division’s capacity to triple its membership through a more aggressive recruitment drive.
Kolawole urged the new leaders to prioritise human skills development and capacity building, stressing that effective humanitarian service requires discipline, commitment and selflessness.
He noted that the responsibilities ahead demand dedication and a strong sense of responsibility, urging the newly certified members to remain focused on the Society’s humanitarian mandate.
The seven Fundamental Principles guiding the Red Cross Movement are humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
