Police operatives attached to the anti-kidnapping unit of the Ogun State Police Command, Abeokuta, have killed two kidnap suspects and successfully liberated a kidnap victim.
Operatives also recovered an Ak 47 assault rifle and other kidnap insignia in the process.

A statement signed by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, spokesperson of the Command, said the successfully liberation of the kidnap victim followed an intelligence-led operations. “Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded another significant breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing fight against kidnapping, as sustained operational pressure mounted on a kidnapping gang led to the safe release of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.”
A subsequent intelligence-led operation resulted in the neutralisation of two kidnappers and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other incriminating exhibits.
The victim was abducted on 30 June 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., when the perpetrators invaded his residence at Okun Owa and whisked him away.
On getting the report, the State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, immediately directed the activation of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.
As a result of sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers, the victim regained his freedom unharmed on 3 July 2026.
“Following the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the kidnappers. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis.
In an ensuing gun duel the police operatives neutralized two of the kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.
A search conducted on the neutralised kidnappers led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.
The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police commended the courage, professionalism, and operational efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to identifying, tracking, and dismantling criminal networks operating within the State.
