The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has handed over 18 bags of suspected cannabis sativa it intercepted to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, handed over the 756 kilogrammes of the seized consignment packed in 18 bags to the Commander of Narcotics Luka Yerima, on Friday, 17 July 2026, for further investigation and action.
The seizure was the result of intelligence-driven operations by NNS BEECROFT’s Quick Response Team in coordination with the Western Regional Control Centre, “FALCON EYE.”
Five bags were intercepted at Abule Osun on April 7, 2026, two bags at Ikare Island on April 13, 2026, and the remaining 11 bags at Alpha Beach on July 15, 2026.
Navy officials said the operations align with directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, to use technology, surveillance and inter-agency collaboration to deny criminals access to Nigeria’s maritime domain.
During the handover, Commander Yerima commended the Navy for the successful operation and called for sustained cooperation to combat illicit drug trafficking and other transnational crimes.
The NNS BEECROFT said it will continue to intensify surveillance and work with security agencies to prevent Nigeria’s coastal waters and communities from being used as transit routes for criminal enterprises.
