The Nigerian Naval College (NNC) Ebubu-Eleme, Rivers State, in activities marking a farewell ceremony for its outgoing Commandant, Rear Admiral H. S. Zego, has held an inter-squadron combat swimming competition, a 5 km endurance jog, a Thanksgiving Service, Obstacle Crossing and Range Classification.
The Command disclosed in a statement on Thursday, that “the week-long activities commenced with a 5km endurance jogging, which was conducted on Saturday, 15 November 2025.”
The Commandant flagged off the 45-minute exercise, with was cadets dressed in Field Service Marching Order (FSMO), and jogged along a well-mapped route supervised by physical training instructors.
According to the statement, a Thanksgiving Service coordinated by the College Chaplaincy, was held on Sunday, the 16th day of November, 2025. Several dignitaries including the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Representatives of the Director of State Security Service and the Nigerian Custom Services, were in attendance.
In the order of the activities, the obstacle crossing and range classification exercises commenced on Monday, 17 November 2025, and concluded on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.
“Cadets began with the obstacle course, completing it within 20 minutes before proceeding to the range. At the range, the cadets fired live rounds each of the General Purpose Machine Gun, Tavor rifle, Automat Kalashnikova-56, and pistol. The cadets engaged the targets from various distances and positions. The exercise was concluded with dignitaries engaging the targets from different distances and position”
The inter-squadron combat swimming competition was held on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. The competition was flagged off by the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH),Major Gen. EE Emekah, accompanied by the Commandant, Rear Admiral HS Zego. And, the cadets participated in combat breaststroke with rifle, combat undress swim, combat freestyle, combat relay, and combat individual swimming categories.
The College affirmed that the series of activities conducted symbolised deep respect and admiration for Admiral Zego’s leadership, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
The participation, enthusiasm, and discipline displayed by cadets and staff alike reflected the Commandant’s enduring impact on the College. Accordingly, the College expressed gratitude to him for his contributions and wished him well.
