Goodbye blues as late Mama Margaret Onuzuruike is laid to rest

The Onuzuruikes of Amaogwugwu in Umuahia North of Abia State gave in to tears as they laid their beloved mother, late Mama Margaret Chidinma Onuzuruike, to rest.

Among Mama’s children is Faithwin Nwaogu of the Public Relations Unit at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Mama Margaret who lived a long and beautiful 86-years was known for her affectionate care and loving hugs which always lasted long after she let go. This is indeed one of the virtues of a good mother as captured in Country Living, America’s popular home and lifestyle magazine.

Loved ones, including family members and friends who were present for the event, consoled themselves with the beautiful memories they had of her and with the expression that loved ones don’t die from the hearts of those who truly love them…they simply transition.

As is traditional of African societies, Mama Margaret was eulogised and wished well on her final journey.

From among the small crowd by the graveside, a grieving woman whispered “Ezinne ga nke oma” translated to mean “Exemplary mother, have a safe journey.”

Earlier, the officiating minister at the funeral service, Pastor Isaac Okereke, testified that mama Onuzuruike lived a fulfilled Christian life.

He said: “Late Margaret was a true soldier of the Cross and a follower of the Lamb, having been baptised in 1956. Ever since she and her husband embraced the gospel under Faith Tabernacle Congregation Church, she was never shaken in her faith.

“Despite the fact she suffered great trials and temptations she maintained her steadfast belief and trust in God.”

Okereke charged everyone to emulate her good works of faith, and embrace Christ just like mama Onuzuruike, noting that she fought the good fight of life and has gone to rest in the Lord.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Uchenna Onuzuruike, expressed gratitude to God “for the opportunity to these many years with our mother.”

He extended appreciation to friends and well-wishers for their show of love and support in various forms at this crucial moment.

The Onuzurikes as well as others who had close contacts with the late Matriarch, said they would always remember Mama Margaret for her kind heart, care and wisdom.
