NSC Boss Akutah hails NESRA’s enforcement activities at Nigerian ports

The National Environmental Standard Regulatory Enforcement Agency (NESRA) on Tuesday received the commendation of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) for its crucial enforcement operations in seaports.
This was during the visit of the agency’s Acting Director, Lagos Liaison Office, Dr. Jonathan Dajel to the NSC’s Office in Lagos, on Tuesday.

The Executive Secretary of the NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah MON while welcoming Dajel and his team commended NESRA for its crucial enforcement activities in the nation’s seaports.

Akutah pointed out the importance of allowing NESRA to carry out its mandate clearly unhindered at the seaport.

He told the visiting NESRA team that the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, Economy has been commitment to sustainable ocean resource management, and called on the agency to ratify and domesticate its agreements for mutual benefit.

The NSC CEO stressed the need for synergy among government agencies, adding that this creates room for robust collaboration over antagonism.

In his response, Dajel sought a partnership with the Council as the Port Economic, citing challenges in accessing port terminals for enforcement activities.

The NESRA Director noted Nigeria’s signatory status to international environmental conventions and the agency’s role in issuing Ballast Water Management Certificates to regulate marine pollution.

Both NSC and NESRA expressed support for collaboration, adding that it remains potential to enhance port operations and environmental sustainability.
