May Day Celebration: MWUN President General Bunu Abi extols worker’s dedication
The President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has extolled Nigerian Workers on May Day, for their resilience, commitment, dedication and determination to keep pushing the wheel of progress in spite of the challenges being faced in all of the nation’s industrial sectors.
“I will keep urging the Nigerian worker to keep the flag flying as there’s nothing as being diligent in giving dignity to labour, that’s the works of your hands, which will eventually speak for you as a Nigerian wherever you may find yourself and for your sure, you will not be left unrewarded, for a diligent workman will be definitely be paid his wages, entitlements, and handsomely rewarded,” he said.
In a statement by the Head of Media at the MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Bunu Abi admonished Nigerian Workers to stand tall in their various professions and live up to their professionalism by demanding their legitimate rights, saying that no matter how difficult it may seem, the government would surely see the positive sides to listen to the workers’ plights and comply to every demand made.
The statement added in part that : “The President General also congratulated the Union’s workers comprising of the four branches, the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Dockworkers, Seafarers and the Shipping branch for their unwavering commitment towards moving the Maritime industry to enviable heights globally.
“He praised the critical stakeholders of the industry, stressing that the only way the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria and the stakeholders would continue to enjoy relative peace, harmony and cordial working relationship is by keeping to the mutual relationship that has existed over time.
“He urged the stakeholders not to relent as the Union always committed vibrant port operations by means of efficient and effective service delivery as operated across the world. And by so doing, the Workers must not be neglected in their welfares and remunerations.”
The MWUN PG also said that he is not unaware of the numerous changes being experienced on daily basis, given the harsh economy and the high inflationary rates of the prices of essential commodities, noting that the Federal Government is not unaware, but believes that in no distant time, the government would rise to the occasion to put smiles on the faces of the Nigerian resilient workers.
He wished all Nigerians and Workers a memorable May Day and prayed that their committed efforts towards the buoyance of the nation’s economy will not go in vain.
