Attempted sea robbery in Nigerian waters

“There has been an attempted sea robbery in Nigerian waters,” the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has disclosed after its officials at the C4i center monitoring the situation on Tuesday, 21 April 2025, noted that there was  an illegal boarding of a Marshall Islands-flagged chemical tanker “Sea Panther” southwest of Brass, Nigeria.

A statement by NIMASA on Friday, said “This is the first of such attempted sea robbery in Nigerian waters since 2021.”

“Four individuals boarded the vessel and made away with some personal items of crew members.”

According to the statement,  all crew members are safe and MT Sea Panther has since sailed off Nigerian waters safely.

NIMASA gave assurances that it was working closely with relevant security agencies and further investigations into the incident continues.
