The Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control for West and Central African Region generally referred to as Abuja MoU would be collaborating with the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom and three other Maritime Training Institutions (MITs) in the sub-region, to begin certified courses on Port State Control Inspections and Regimes.

The Secretary General of Abuja MoU, Captain Sunday Umoren, disclosed in a chat on Monday that discussions on the collaboration had already kicked off with the Regional Maritime University, Ghana.

Captain Umoren added that the collaboration had become necessary as none of the maritime training institutions was offering the programme.

“At a meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Ghana on 28th August, the discussion was on how the Abuja MoU will collaborate with RMU on commencement of certificated course on Port State Control Inspections and regimes.

“The collaboration is necessary as no Maritime Training Institution (MTI) in the region is offering such program,” Umoren said.
