Nigeria tightens security at Border Posts, Airports over ISIS threat

The threat by the Islamic State (ISIS) to
attack Nigeria has forced the federal government to tighten security at the
nation’s border ports and airports throughout the country.

The Secretary to the federal government had notified the
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)
and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) about the threat and directed
the agencies to ensure that the border posts as well as the airports were
secured.

Sources said the SGF letter followed a report from the Al-Abd
al-Faqir Media, a pro-Islamic State of Iraq and Syria media outlet which
revealed about the planned attack two months ago.

The Customs had on receiving the letter from the SGS last
week directed all its commands to tighten security at the borders.

However, the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh had
earlier indicated federal government’s plans to close down Seme Border as the
only way to check smuggling of rice into the country through the border post.
