Prof. Michael Adebamowo of the Department of Architecture, University of
Lagos (UNILAG), has called on practitioners in the building industry to support
research in architectural designs to improve the sector.

interview in Lagos, Adebamowo said that such initiative was a common practice
in advanced countries which helped to develop the building industry.
He said a
recent design workshop, with the theme “Lighting the Global Workspace’’ in
which his students participated, was sponsored by a German company, Zumtobel
Lighting in collaboration with Aedes Network Campus, Berlin.

are done by the universities are sponsored by the industry because they are the

to see that happening in Nigeria, particularly in the building industry where
construction giants like Julius Berger, Cappa and D’Alberto among others work;
this is what they should be involved in,” he said.

The
Professor of Architecture said that research supported by industry players
would attract quicker implementation of results as it would enhance their
productivity and in turn, the economy.
