NAGAFF to develop cargo village in Enugu

On-the-spot
inspection and assessment of project development site

The National
Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) is to develop a
cargo village within the proposed East – Gate Enugu Airport City Development
project to be anchored by NECI Land Development Corporation Limited.

This is contained in a statement signed on Wednesday in Lagos by its
National Publicity Secretary, Mr Simeon Nwonu.
It said the National President of NAGAFF, Chief Eugene Nweke, recently
visited Enugu in an on-the-spot inspection and assessment of the project
development site with the Representative of the Corporation, Mr Daniel Kalu.
The statement said the proposed Cargo Village would be situated within
the 142 – hectare of land, of the East – Gate Enugu Airport City Development
Project adjacent to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu.
Quoting the NAGAFF President, the statement said the proposed NAGAFF
Cargo Village would be fashioned after a similar one in Malaysia.
It said a delegation comprising officials of NAGAFF, representatives of
the Enugu State Government, NECI Land Development Corporation Limited and other
27 business venture companies including the banks would visit Malaysia in
October.
The statement also said the visit to the Asian country would be to get a
clearer picture of the Malaysia model.
Nweke, according to the statement, said NAGAFF was enjoying the goodwill
and trust of stakeholders involved in the project and all hands would soon be
on deck to make the project a reality.
He said that when completed, the cargo village would boost and further
simplify the process of Cargo clearing in the country and help in removing
congestion at the Lagos ports and entry points, the statement said.
He said Importers, Exporters and Freight Forwarders would be happy to
divert their cargoes to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport.
The proposed cargo village is part of a bigger project which has the
potential of creating a wide range of business opportunities in Enugu State and
the entire South East geo-political zone.
The statement said it would encompass the establishment of key
investment component such as air cargo terminal logistics hub, high industrial
zone, duty free and export zone and commercial and residential real estate.

It recalled that the Enugu State Gov., Ifeanyi Uguwanyi, recently
visited the site of the proposed East-Gate Enugu Airport City Development
project.
