NIS 2014 fellowship: 25 members including NPA Hydrographer for Award
Twenty-five members of the Nigerian Institute of Surveyors (NIS) will on Thursday, August 28, be honoured and inducted into the fellowship cadre by the Institute, which is the recognised professional organisation for surveyors in Nigeria.
The vice president of the Nigerian Hydrographic Society, Mr Olumide Omotoso, disclosed this in an interview in Lagos.
He also said that the 2014 investiture which is scheduled to hold at the Le Meridian Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, will bestow the honourary fellowship of the institute on Gov. Godswill Akpabio.
Omotoso, who is also the Vice Chairman of the capacity building sub-committee of the International Hydrographic Organisation, is listed as one of the recipients of the award.
Born on May 19, 1962 in Lagos, South-West Nigeria, Omotoso is an indigene of Ayede-Ekiti in Ekiti State. He was educated at the famous Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State in 1973. He had a sixth form education at the Ondo State College of Arts and Science and then at Nigeria’s Premier University, the University of Ibadan

He graduated with an honours degree in Geography and later got a post-graduate professional diploma in Surveying from the Federal School of Surveying in Oyo. He studied Hydrography at the University of Southern Mississippi, USA and IHO CAT. B at the Royal Navy Hydrohraphic School in Plymouth, Drake, United Kingdom.
He also holds Master of Science degrees in Geographic Information System (GIS)- University of Ibadan and another Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Rivers State.
With over 25 years of Hydrographic Surveying/Project Management experience, Omotoso started his working career as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, where he rose to the position of the acting head of department.
He currently works at the senior management level for government at the Nigerian Ports Authority. He has served, consulted and supervised projects for reputable companies and Multinational Companies in
Nigeria and abroad.

Happily married to his sweetheart, Aderonke Arinola, Omotoso is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Hydrographic Society. Away from the work front, Omotoso loves playing basketball, reading, boating and fishing.
