The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (WNC), Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, on 17 March 2026, paid a courtesy visit to Tony O. Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa, to strengthen existing ties between the Nigerian Navy and the bank.
The FOC conveyed the goodwill of the Chief of the Naval Staff, introduced himself as the 46th FOC WNC and commended Mr Elumelu for his outstanding contributions to economic development across Africa, particularly through entrepreneurship empowerment initiatives impacting thousands of young Africans.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to securing the maritime domain in Nigeria’s western region through enhanced surveillance, technology and intelligence sharing, while also extending an invitation to the Nigerian Navy’s forthcoming 70th Anniversary and International Fleet Review.
In his response, Mr Elumelu, renowned for his leadership in banking and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation expressed appreciation for the visit and the FOC’s appointment. He reaffirmed his continued support for the Nigerian Navy’s efforts in promoting maritime security and national development.
