Marine and Blue Economy Ministry is great. Will be greater with professional as SSA Maritime – Master mariners
The Nigerian Association of Master Mariners (NAMM) has commended the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the newly- created Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
President of the NAMM, Captain Tajudeen Alao, at the weekend, said that the development of the creation of the ministry was one long desired and advocated as a step to getting leadership to coordinate growth and development of the marine sub-sector.
His words: “I congratulate stakeholders in the Maritime industry, and particularly thank Mr. President, Bola Ahmend Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The creation of this new ministry is a dream come true, and answers to long yearning of the maritime industry stakeholder. At last, the second- greatest contributor to Nigeria’s GDP has been given the desired attention.”
The NAMM president used the occasion to also make known the desire of the mariners on the need for the President to engage a Senior Special Assistant on Maritime, to the President.
“We have so many requests lined up to propel the Industry. Some of them include the headship of Agencies to be professionalised; appointments round clearly be based on suitably qualified persons, since their functions are guarded by International Conventions.
“We hope that our Honourable Minister shall have listening ears and surround his office with knowledgeable practitioners; use his deep knowledge to harness all potentials within the Blue Economy, sustainably.”
The association, according to the NAMM president, pledges its full support to the leadership of this new Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy as well as to the present administration headed by of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
