Profile of AMES new president
Engr. Israel Obadan was born in Benin City, then Mid-West Region, now Edo state.
He completed his primary and secondary education in flying colours on government scholarships, before proceeding then to Auchi Polytechnic to obtain a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering as a State sponsored Scholar.
He proceeded to the United Kingdom for his Marine Engineering course under the Federal Government scholarship training program lasting ten years and qualified as a First Class Marine Engineer (Unlimited) in 1985.He served as Chief Engineer on various types of ship with both local and international shipping Companies.
Engr. Israel Obadan is a Classification Surveyor with foreign companies, a dedicated Marine Engineer Consultant, consulting for International Oil Companies (IOCs); a very passionate Flag State Surveyor, and a sought after Marine Auditor.
He is a member of the Incorporated Engineers of British Council of Engineering.
He was a past Chairman of The Institute of Marine Engineers, Science & Technologists of Britain, IMAREST (Nigeria).
He holds a Master’s degree in Marine Transportation, amongst other Certifications.

An Executive Member of the Society of Nigerian Mariners (SNM), Engr. Obadan is very active in the promotion of Professionalism and Standards in Maritime Domain Administration..
He is the current President, Association of Marine Engineers & Surveyors (AMES).
Engr. Israel Obadan, a recipient of several awards is married with two children.
Hobbies include listening to good ‘sweet’ cool jazz music, football, table tennis and athletics.
