Stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime community will gather in Lagos on 17 December 2025, for the 10th Anniversary Annual Seminar for Maritime Journalists – an influential industry forum driving conversations on digital trade, regulatory efficiency and the economic reforms reshaping the blue economy.
Now a decade strong, the seminar has evolved into a premium intelligence hub, equipping maritime reporters with the analytical tools to interpret policy shifts, market behaviour and operational performance across ports, shipping, logistics and inland trade corridors. Its impact on strengthening the sector’s information value chain continues to influence investment decisions and regulatory outcomes.
This year’s edition comes at a defining moment for Nigeria’s maritime economy, as digitalisation, automation and governance reforms accelerate the push toward greater efficiency and transparency.
A key highlight is the Business Dialogue on the National Single Window, to be led by its Director, Mr. Tola Fakolade. The session will unpack the platform’s commercial and competitive value, address misconceptions around its operational framework, and outline how the media can better communicate its benefits to industry stakeholders.
To deepen analytical reporting, the seminar will feature a hands-on training on “Data Analysis for Effective Maritime Reporting”, anchored by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abdullahi Maiwada. The session will empower journalists to interpret cargo data, revenue trends, trade patterns and performance indicators essential for credible business journalism.
The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Ukeyima, will deliver the keynote address on regulatory efficiency, investment protection and the media’s role in promoting transparency and investor confidence.
Chairman of the Occasion, Mr. Warredi Eniosuoh, brings deep operational and regulatory expertise that aligns with ongoing initiatives to enhance maritime safety, streamline port operations and reduce logistics costs.
The attendance of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, as Special Guest of Honour reinforces the seminar’s strategic relevance to customs modernisation, trade automation and the government’s drive to cut the time and cost of doing business at the ports.
Convener Mr. Sesan Onileimo, CEO of First Mediacon Network Limited, noted that the past decade has demonstrated the power of accurate, data-driven journalism in shaping the maritime economy. “This platform equips reporters to analyse reforms, interrogate investments and deliver credible information to the business community,” he said.
As the seminar marks a decade of impact, organisers reaffirm their dedication to strengthening maritime journalism and supporting a more transparent, efficient and investment-ready maritime environment.
