Team NIMASA, Jime, Effedua, Farah, others clinch DMPs Awards 2022
Data Resources Ltd. has adjudged some personalities in the maritime industry as outstanding in their leadership style and dedication to duty, thereby making them qualify for the 2022 Distinguished Maritime Personalities (DPMs) Awards.
In a statement on Monday, the Head of Data Resources Ltd, Kelvin Kagbare, said the company’s decision for the awards to the identified personalities was informed by their commitment to service in their assigned duties.
He added that it was necessary to recognise people who show such commitment that helps to grow the industry, in spite of challenges.
His words: “In our review of the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), certain personalities are outstanding for their leadership astuteness and dedication to the call of duty.
“In the midst of the overall socio- economic challenges, it is easy to lose sight of the good that has been established and the progress made.
“We must look out for, see and acknowledge the positives and recognize those working quietly but valiantly, defying the odds, to keep the flag flying in their respect domains.
“Specifically, in the maritime sector, there are stakeholders and players who have held their own to stand out over the course of the outgoing year.
“Arising from a combined management and editorial Board meeting held over the weekend, there was unanimity among members of Data Resources Ltd, (Publishers, Trainers, Safety/Security and general Shipping Service providers) that the quartet of Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Hon. Jime Emmanuel, ES/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua, (rtd), Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) and Dr. Bayero Salih-Farah, Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology ( NITT) Zaria, bagged the Awards of Distinguished Maritime Personalities (DMPs), and recognitions on account of their dedication to national duty and commitment to ensuring improved efficiency in Nigeria’s maritime industry within the ambit of the mandate of their respective organizations.”
Kagbare noted further that “For their quiet, supportive, constructive, growth oriented reforms and un-obstructive works, the Executive Directors, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services, Engr. Barr. Victor Ochei, Executive Director Operations, Mr. Shehu Ahmed and hon. Chudi Offodile, Executive Director, Finance and Administration, are listed among this year’s DMPs.”
He said that the Maritime Nigeria group described the present NIMASA management team as the best thus far in the history of the Agency.
Irrespective of varying views and approach to issues/challenges, resolutions have been reached without recourse to public intrusion and unnecessary politicking, Kagbare said.
He added that the focus on the job at hand, the contentment, sacrifices and patriotic zeal of the executive directors, has been most inspiring and rewarding to industry and country.
Remarkable, Kagbare said that “From the list of the 2022 DMPs, Dr. Bashir Jamoh is Maritime Anchor Man of the year, while Hon. Jime of NSC is Regulatory Titan of the Year. In the same vein, Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua of MAN and Dr. Bayero Salih-Farah of NITT clinched the Maritime Change Agent of the Year and Transport Innovator/Strategic Reformist Awards respectively.
Some Customs officers also made the list of DMPs, which shall be unveiled in due course alongside shortlisted personalities in the transport and logistics chain.
While congratulating the DMPs, Kagbare who publishes Newsgate, Maritime Insider, Maritime Nigeria and other titles, said the Awards were a call to enhanced service delivery, a requirement for greater commitment and added responsibility on the shoulders of the DMPs.
According to him: “Many are called; it is a few that are chosen. We look not for perfection but for responsiveness, dedication and commitment to duty”
“These are the templates deployed to assess work done, grounds covered and mileage attained within the period,” Kagbare said, even as he averred to disclose more DMPs and give further insight into the awards in the coming days.
