NPA plans 30% tariff reliefs to encourage use of Eastern ports
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is planning to offer as much as 30 per cent of tariff reliefs to encourage more vessels and cargo traffic to the nation’s eastern ports.
Managing Director of the NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko, disclosed this while addressing stakeholders at a forum held on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
The Managing Director and his management team have been on an assessment tour of facilities in Port Harcourt and Onne Ports.
The Authority in a statement, said the proposed initiative was being considered after it observed that a 10 per cent rebate offered terminal operators failed at its desired goal years ago; certainly because it was not substantial to encourage the operators.
According to the NPA, shipping traffic to these ports has not witnessed any significant growth.
The Authority is therefore already considering the proposal for the tariff rebate being sought by the terminals.
