The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ), the umbrella body of all Maritime Journalists in Nigeria has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, 2026, and signed by the Chairman of NNMJ, Elder Dele Aderibigbe and the Secretary, Mr. Moses Ebosele, the Network described the milestone as worthy of celebration, noting that Dr. Adeniyi’s leadership has brought renewed direction and credibility to the Nigeria Customs Service.
According to the NNMJ, the Customs boss deserves commendation for rising to the challenge at a critical period when the Service required firm leadership and clear reforms. The statement noted that under Adeniyi’s watch, the NCS has been repositioned from a turbulent phase to an enviable standing within the World Customs Organisation (WCO), where Nigeria currently enjoys enhanced global recognition.
The Network further described the Comptroller-General as a workaholic whose far-reaching reforms have transformed the Service. It highlighted the B’odogwu initiative, an indigenous intervention, as one of the landmark achievements that has significantly boosted revenue generation and strengthened government coffers.
The statement recalled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commendation of the Customs boss, noting that Adeniyi’s leadership has contributed to improved community relations, consistent surpassing of revenue targets, stronger trade partnerships with countries and multilateral institutions, and enhanced security across Nigeria’s borders.
According to the President, these achievements underscore the value of reform-driven leadership in strengthening national economic resilience and safeguarding the nation’s frontiers.
The NNMJ prayed that God Almighty would continue to fortify Dr. Adeniyi with sound health and wisdom as he steers the affairs of the Nigeria Customs Service to greater heights.
