As part of the pre-yuletide drug control strategies, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, has successfully intercepted large consignments of skunk cannabis in two separate operations, resulting in the seizure of over 763 kilograms of the illicit substance and the arrest of two suspected traffickers.
NDLEA Edo State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, PhD, described both seizures as impressive efforts towards ridding the state of illicit drugs during the end-of-the-year festive season.

He emphasized that the agency remains resolute in its commitment to curbing the production, trafficking, and distribution of illicit drugs in the state.
“These arrests and seizures demonstrate our unwavering dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities, especially as we are approaching the end of the year festive season,” he said.
Ofoyeju said in a statement that the first operation was conducted on 2 December 2025, when officers intercepted two Honda Accord vehicles at Agho Forest, Akoko Edo Local Government Area (LGA), Edo State.
The vehicles were found to be transporting compressed dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis. The first vehicle, with registration number ABC-678kk, contained 341 compressed packages weighing 217.5 kilograms. The driver, Mr. Dada Adedara Babawibi, aged 56, was apprehended at the scene.

The second vehicle, with registration number GGE-772FB, was loaded with 361 compressed packages weighing 230 kilograms. The driver of this vehicle remains at large and is currently being hunted by the agency. The combined weight of seized cannabis from these two cars amounts to 447.5 kilograms.
In another raid on December 4, 2025, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence arrested Mr. Stanley Obasuwa, aged 36, at a warehouse located in the Isiefve community, Uhunwonde LGA, Edo State. The raid yielded the seizure of eight bags of cannabis sativa seeds weighing a total of 315.8 kilograms, stored in a simple structure on the outskirts of the community. The total weight of cannabis and seeds seized in the two operations now stands at an impressive 763.3 kilograms. Investigations are ongoing as operatives continue to track other suspects and dismantle drug networks operating within Edo State.
Members of the public were urged to cooperate with the NDLEA by providing credible information that can aid in the war against drug trafficking.
