The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, conducted a working visit to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, affirming his dedication to the welfare of naval personnel and enhancing maritime security operations in the region.
The visit highlighted his commitment to sustaining the Nigerian Navy’s operational readiness and infrastructural development in the Niger Delta.
During the day, the CNS inspected vital naval infrastructure projects including the proposed Nigerian Navy Hospital, the permanent site of Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH, and accommodation facilities for officers and men at Palm Estate, Yenagoa.
He further toured Camp PORBENI, headquarters of the Central Naval Command, assessing ongoing improvements and commending the command leadership for maintaining high standards in base development.
His visit to Camp PORBENI was particularly significant as he had previously served in key leadership roles there, including Command Administrative Officer and Flag Officer Commanding, giving the visit a personal and nostalgic dimension.
In a strategic operational briefing at the Headquarters of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), Vice Admiral Abbas directed commanders to prioritize troop welfare while intensifying efforts against crude oil theft and other maritime crimes—a critical issue in the Niger Delta. He praised the troops’ dedication and urged continued vigilance, pledging the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering support to joint task forces operating in the area.
The CNS’s emphasis on leadership and strong command was aimed at driving success in securing the nation’s maritime domain.
The Naval Chief’s return to the Central Naval Command underscored his intimate connection with the command. He expressed delight in the visible developmental strides and pledged ongoing support to officers, ratings, and civilian staff.
The CNS praised the command’s management for its stewardship of the base and the welfare of all personnel, highlighting the importance of these efforts in achieving operational excellence.
Vice Admiral Abbas concluded his visit with a heartfelt dialogue addressing concerns raised by officers and men. He assured them that their welfare remains a priority and recognized their resilience and commitment.
