On behalf of the Nigerian Association of Master Mariners, I salute the Maritime Industry on this occasion of 2025 World Maritime Day Celebration, most especially the Hon. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola and his team. I pray that his leadership shall witness and reap the positive results of the foundation he has laid in berthing the new Ministry and bringing forth the National Policy Framework on Marine and Blue Economy.
This year’s theme – “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity” – speaks directly to our calling as Master Mariners. For us, the ocean is not an abstraction; it is our workplace, our heritage, and our shared responsibility. We have sailed its waters, drawn from its wealth, and seen both its vast opportunities and its fragility.
For Nigeria, a country endowed with a rich coastline and enormous maritime potential, the message of today is timely. It is a reminder that our obligation to protect the ocean goes hand in hand with the opportunity to grow our blue economy, strengthen global trade links, and uplift our people through maritime prosperity.
As professionals with decades of experience on the seas, we in NAMM remain committed to supporting the Ministry, the industry, and the nation in advancing safe navigation, sustainable practices, and capacity building for the next generation of seafarers.
We commend the Honourable Minister and his team for aligning Nigeria with the International Maritime Organization in marking this important day. We also reaffirm our readiness to partner in ensuring that our oceans are safeguarded and our maritime potential fully realised.
May this celebration inspire deeper collaboration, practical innovation, and renewed dedication to making Nigeria a true maritime nation.
Thank you, and may the Almighty bless our oceans, our mariners, and our beloved country.
Capt. Tajudeen Alao.
