The Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS), Port Harcourt, played host to the grand finale of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Annual School Quiz, Debate, and STEM Competition 2025, held from July 8 to 9.
The two-day academic event brought together some of the brightest minds from Nigerian Navy schools across the country and aimed to promote academic excellence, leadership development, and interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Finalists for this year’s edition included NNSS Ojo, NNSS Port Harcourt, NNSS Calabar, NNSS Okura, and the Nigerian Navy Military School (NNMS) Ikot-Ntuen. Command Science Secondary School (CSSS) Port Harcourt and Air Force Secondary School (AFSS) Port Harcourt also participated in invitation-only segments of the debate and STEM exhibition.
Winners emerge across multiple categories
In a closely contested Quiz category, NNSS Ojo clinched first place, followed by NNMS Ikot-Ntuen in second, and NNSS Port Harcourt in third.
The Debate competition saw NNSS Port Harcourt emerge victorious, while NNSS Ojo and NNMS Ikot-Ntuen secured second and third positions, respectively.
NNSS Okura took the top spot in the STEM competition, with NNSS Ojo and NNSS Calabar finishing second and third.
In the invitation segment, CSSS Port Harcourt won the debate category, while AFSS Port Harcourt triumphed in the STEM exhibition. All winners were presented with cash prizes, trophies, and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Dignitaries grace the occasion
The event attracted dignitaries from several naval units across the Port Harcourt area. On the first day, Rear Admiral EE Ebe, Admiral Superintendent of Naval Shipyard Limited, served as the Special Guest of Honour, while on the second day, Rear Admiral RO Obeya, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, held the same role.
The Chief Host of the competition was Rear Admiral AO Ogunleye, Director of Naval Education, who commended the students for their zeal and excellence, and encouraged them to continue striving for academic and personal development.
The CNS Annual Academic Competition continues to serve as a platform for nurturing the intellectual and leadership potential of students within the Nigerian Navy’s educational system, while also fostering healthy rivalry, innovation, and teamwork.
