Nigerian Ports Consultative Council appoints Jean Chiazor Anishere as Vice Chairperson
Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Principal Partner, Jean Chiazor and Partners, has been appointed as the Vice Chairperson of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC).
The NPCC made the appointment known in a letter with Ref: HQ/NPCC/AD/G.1/35, signed by its Chairman, Mr. Bolaji Sunmola, and addressed to the Learned Silk, Jean Chiazor Anishere, who is also a Court Member at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration.
Theletter reads in part that: “On behalf of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC), I am delighted to officially acknowledge your appointment as the new vice chairperson of the Council as nominated by the Chairman and agreed by the Management members of the Council from the meeting held on 3rd September, 2024.
“We extend our warmest congratulations to you on this significant role and also express our confidence in your capacity to contribute to the continued growth and advancement of the Nigerian Maritime and Port Industry.”
The NPCC expressed confidence that Anishere’s legal expertise and vast experience in maritime affairs will strengthen the Council’s mandate of advocacy, arbitration, advisory and consulting.
“We believe your leadership will enhance our engagement with key stakeholders, help drive strategic initiatives aimed at improving the operational efficiency of Nigerian ports and very importantly, energize the new NPCC of our dreams to be able to deliver on all forms. to the Marine and Blue Economy,” the statement added.
In her acceptance letter, Mrs. Anishere said: “I am overwhelmed with the NPCC’s kind words and trust reposed in me as I pledge my loyalty to serve and ensure the full attainment of the core essence, mission and vision of the NPCC.”
The newly appointed Vice Chairperson of NPCC, is also the Maritime Legal Consultant to the Nigerian House of Representatives’ Committee on Marine; and Vice President of Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (MAAN).
To her credit are five volumes of Essays in Admiralty – a comprehensive collection of essays and learned papers focused on maritime law, published by one of UK’s prominent publishers in Maritime books – Petrospot UK. Her books are also found in the British Council Libraries.
Anishere is the Editor-In-Chief of Admiralty Law Reports of Nigeria, volumes 1-32 (A compendium of Judgments on Admiralty Matters in Nigeria, through the Federal High Court, to the Supreme Court of Nigeria) with a comprehensive index of cases published so far.
She is also the Legal Adviser/Member of Women in Commonwealth Business Network, Nigeria (CBWN); Exco Member, Nigerian Maritime Law Association (NMLA); Past President, Women in Shipping and Trade Association (WISTA-Nigeria); Past President, African Women in Maritime Organization (WIMA-Nigeria); Past Continental President, Financial Secretary to the Board of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN); Women in Maritime Africa (WIMAFRICA); United Nations/African Union sole representative for African Women in Maritime (WIMAFRICA).
