PTML Terminal pays aged dockworkers retirement benefits

The Management of Ports & Terminal Multi services Limited (PTML) Tin Can Island Port, Apapa recently paid all 74 aged disengaged dockworkers wages and benefits,  while 10 of the deceased Dockworkers were also paid through their next of kins, all numbering 84.

The payment exercise was made under the   supervision of Comrade Bello Abubakir, Vice President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) who represented the President General of the Union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, Comrade Ibrahim Ohize, President, Dockworkers Branch of the MWUN and other officials of the Union.

Prince Adeyanju noted that since inception of the terminal, this is the very first time that PTML would be applying the minimum salary standard (NJIC) to the fullest, even surpassing what was recommended in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the payment of Dockworkers retirees in its Terminal.

He urged other terminals to take a cue from PTML Terminal.

The foremost Maritime Labour leader, Dr. Adeyanju, praised the management of PTML for taking such laudable bold step to putting smiles on the faces of both the aged retirees and the family of the deceased who got the entitlements of their departed beloved ones.
