The Executive Secretary/CEO of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Akutah Pius Ukeyima, has commended Nigeria’s largest container terminal, APM Terminals Apapa for its huge investment at the port and for maintaining a neat and decent work environment.
The NSC boss gave the commendation on his maiden visit to the terminal.
He described APM Terminals Apapa’s investment in container handling equipment as “huge.”
“The work environment is very neat and the people are working in a very healthy environment,” he said. “What remains is how we can move that forward to achieve our mandate in the sector. As a regulator, it is our duty to bring up policies that will regulate their activities and ensure that we achieve what we are looking for.
“What they have done in terms of deployment of technology is quite promising, and I believe that on our part, by the time we also deploy technology, it will be easy for us to achieve the port conducive system that we are looking to.”
He assured terminal operators of regular consultation and collaboration in the policy and decision making process.
The Terminal Manager, APM Terminals Apapa, Steen Knudsen, told his guest that in addition to cargo handling equipment, the terminal has also made substantial investment in human capital development.
