NPA confident port community system will improve trade processes
Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko, has expressed confidence that the Port Community System (PCS) would integrate all stakeholders within the maritime sector and promote growth of the nation’s economy as well as support the security of vessels on the nation’s waters.
Koko said this on Monday in London while attending the 33rd session of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) General Assembly. He also described the proposed port community system as a desired ‘game-changer’.
He was optimistic that Nigeria would achieve the port automation and necessary integration ahead of the IMO 2025 deadline set for member countries.
Strategic to the ease of doing business, according to the NPA MD, the Port Community System is also expected to achieve transparency, save cost, improve efficiency and make the nation’s ports more trade-friendly; improved processing of the ship entry notice and faster ship-turnaround time among other processes supporting trade operations.
