Rear Admiral Mustapha Bala Hassan on Wednesday assumed office as the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, taking over from his predecessor, Rear Admiral Mohammed Miftah Abdullahi.
A statement by the Command described the traditional handing and taking over ceremony, that “the outgoing Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Mohammed Abdullahi, handed over the Command insignia to the incoming Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Mustapha Bala Hassan, to signify the official change of leadership of the Command.”
The lowering and the hoisting of the Command Flag heralded the ceremony to signify the end of tenure and the beginning of a new one.
“The old Command Flag was lowered and handed over to the outgoing Flag Officer Commanding, to signify the end of his tenure, while the new Flag was hoisted signifying that there is change of leadership at the Command,” according to the statement.
Speaking, Admiral Abdullahi urged the officers to support the new headship of the Command, just as he received from them in the course of his tenure from 9 July to 11 Oct., 2023.
In his remarks, the new FOC Admiral Hassan charged the officers on commitment to duty in the service to the nation, reminding them of the task ahead. He also promised improved welfare for the officers and men of the Command.
Rear Admiral Mustapha Bala Hassan is a highly experienced and accomplished Communication Specialist with a wealth of knowledge in national security, war studies, and international relations.
He has held several appointments including being the Commandant Naval War College Nigeria, Calabar, Cross River State.
