The new Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Mr. Wale Adeniyi MFR, on Monday disbanded the Comptroller General of Customs, (CGC) Strike Force Team operated by the Service.
The Strike Force was used by the former CGC, Ret. Col Hameed Ali, to carry out under-cover investigation for the Customs.
It would be recalled that at different times, former CGC, had used such Task Force to carry out operations.
The decision to end the era of the Strike Force was contained in a circular signed by the Deputy Comptroller General of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, Mohammed Abba-Kura.
The circular No. EII/2023/CIRCULAR NO.004 dated July 17 ordered all officers under the team to find their way back to their former different units and commands.
The circular also ordered Strike Force Coordinators in all the zones and headquarters make sure that all arms and ammunition under their control are to the respective Area Commands/Units/Headquarters where they were signed from.
Part of the circular reads, “All operational vehicles are to be handed over to respective Controllers Federal Operations Unit (FOU) and returns forwarded to the Headquarters respectively. Coordinator Headquarters Strike Force Team should retire operational vehicles under his team to Comptroller Transport & Logistics.
“Records of detentions, seizures and cases in court and any other vital records/information are to be handed over to Controllers of FOUs across the zones while Coordinator Headquarters Strike Force Team should retire all records under his custody to the office of DCG Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection (E,I&I).”
