The Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT on Saturday said it had successfully evacuated six accident victims from Motor Tanker Halima on Friday, 3 February 2023.
A statement from the Command said the casualty evacuation was conducted after NNS BEECROFT received information of an emergency onboard the Vessel from the Nigerian Navy Maritime Domain Awareness facility covering the western region, known as the Falcon Eye Western Regional Control Centre (FALCON EYE WRCC).
The WRCC which was in communication with the vessel notified the NNS BEECROFT of an urgent need for casualty evacuation of 6 accident victims who sustained fatal injuries while working onboard the vessel.
“Accordingly, NNS BEECROFT task force stationed at Atlas Cove immediately cast off from Tarkwa Jetty to the vessel anchored at Latitude 06°20’58″N, Longitude 003°21’56″E, a position 3.04 nautical miles south west of Lagos fairway buoy.
“The victims were evacuated to Mekwe Jetty Victoria Island, where the owner of the vessel moved them to the Military Hospital in Ikoyi for medical treatment,” the statement reads in part.
The Commander NNS BEECROFT Rear Admiral Abdul-Rasheed Malami Haruna advises mariners to always emplace the highest level of safety while operating at sea in line with international best practices.
He also assured the public of the unwavering commitment of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, in ensuring safety and security of lives within the nation’s maritime space.
