The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Yakubu Wambai, has on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, commended the troops of the Nigerian Navy who were earlier inducted into the Maritime Component of ‘Operation SAFE HAVEN’ for security duties in October 2021.
He made the commendation at the Arrival Hall, Navy Town Lagos, and reiterated that the personnel exhibited exceptional gallantry in the course of their duties during the Internal Security Operations.
The Flag Officer Commanding was represented by the Command Operation Officer, Western Naval Command who equally doubles as the Commander Naval Base EPE, Commodore Gideon Kachim.
During the reception ceremony, he emphasized that ‘Operation SAFE HAVEN’ is a military task force established in 2010 to maintain peace in Plateau State.
The Task Force, he said has its operational command in Jos and is a multi-task force in charge of security of lives and properties in Plateau, Bauchi and parts of Southern Kaduna.
He rendered kudos to the troops, especially the Special Forces that they have been exposed to different combat processes that were life threatening for the past six months and yet they delivered on the mandate of protecting lives and properties.
He therefore conveyed to the troops the appreciation of the Chief of the Naval Staff on their sacrifice, dedication to duty and loyalty.
The troops have since undergone post traumatic stress disorder management and will embark on disembarkation leave for two weeks to re-unite with their loved ones and thereafter be deployed.
