Anishere completes tenure, Lawson becomes WIMAfrica’s Continental President
Madam Yvonne Adalente Lawson of WIMA-Togo has been elected as the new Continental President of African Women in Maritime (WIMAfrica).
The new CP succeeds Nigeria’s Jean Chiazor-Anishere SAN, who served in the position meritoriously for three years.
The handing –over ceremony took place in Togo on the 15th of November, 2021.
While Anishere served as Continental President of WIMAfrica from 2018 till 2021, the body signed 10 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the World Ocean Council, the African Union, African Blue Economy Forum, Arab Women in Maritime, Africa Administrators in Maritime Agencies (AAMA), African Shipowners Association, African Women Leaders Network,
Others are the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN), responsible for the direction and coordination of the economic, social, humanitarian, and cultural activities carried out by the UN, one with the Bahamas, and awaiting one with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
Within the period also, WIMAFRICA grew from nine National Chapters to 27 National Chapters in Africa.
It would be recalled that under Anishere’s administration, WIMAfrica’s collaboration with Sea Shepherd was able to create a job offer for female Sierra Leonean seafarer, Regina Conteh-Khali.
