Maritime Academy of Nigeria unveils “Margaret Orakwusi Block”
The Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron Akwa Ibom, on Thursday honoured one of Nigeria’s Maritime bigwigs, Barrister (Mrs) Margaret Orakwusi, by naming the Academy’s Marine Exhibition Hall after her.
Unveiling of the block and several others was performed by the Minister of State for Transportation, Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, alongside Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu, the Chairman House Committee on Maritime Administration, Education and Safety.
Responding to the honour bestowed on her, Orakwusi, who chairs the Nigerian Ship Owners Forum, expressed appreciation to the Rector of the Academy, Commodore Duja Effedua( Rtd.) and the Management of the Academy.
She described the recognition as special for coming from a worthy maritime academy, which has lately developed highly in its quality of infrastructure and training capability.
Her words: “I am actually excited. At the same time, I am thankful and grateful to the Rector, the Governing Board and the Management of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron.
“It is indeed a great honour. The honour also challenges me to do more. In my corner, I do quite appreciate the fact that people recognise my contributions. I sincerely value this honour because it stands for what I believe in, education.
“I also believe in excellence. For my name to be associated with such an excellent maritime academy, the best in the country, it gives me a lot of joy.”
Prior to this unveiling ceremony, Effedua had said that the Academy was going to honour some industry operators for their significant contributions to the industry.
