Shipping Branch of MWUN sounds re-election support for Adeyanju
…Says Adeyanju gave ‘human face’ to workers’ welfare
The Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has expressed support and preparedness to re-elect President- General of the Union, Prince Adewale Adeyanju.
President of the Branch, Ekpenyong Ekpenyong, told newsmen that the support for Adeyanju is informed by how well he has served the Union, ensuring improved welfare and working conditions for them.
Remarkably, Ekpenyong said that the PG helped in sustaining meaningful engagements with shipping companies to ensure that workers are not laid off jobs indiscriminately, and that they got appropriate remuneration.
Ekpenyong expressed certainty of victory for Adeyanju when the next elections holds in March 2021.
According to Ekpenyong, Comrade Adeyanju worked tirelessly during the heat of the Covid-19 lockdown, ensuring that maritime workers, especially dockworkers who came in contact with ship crews on arrival at ports, got protective gears and followed new safety protocols to stay safe.
It would be recalled that Adeyanju was elected PG during the March 17, 2017 elections of the Union, which held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Adeyanju emerged victorious with 132 votes against former Deputy President-General, Comrade Dahiru Abubakar, who polled 27 votes.
