Amaechi who spoke in Port Harcourt
during the inauguration of Port Harcourt – Aba Mass Transit Train Services,
said the idea would be a public-private-partnership that will modernize as well
as expand railway transportation in every part of the country.

Amaechi explained that part of the
programme is for the federal government to open new railway lines to improve on
the existing rail network.

He said, “The Ministry of Transportation
has carried out feasibility studies to create seven additional rail corridors of
standard gauge railways under the public-private-partnership initiative.”

The Minister also disclosed that
government was planning to sponsor five bills to be passed into law by the
National Assembly to create room for an effective private sector participation
in the transport sector.
