NPA urges contractors to expedite action on port access roads rehabilitation

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)
Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero, has urged the contractors handling the
rehabilitation work at the Tin Can Island access road to expedite action on the construction work currently ongoing to ease traffic in and out of the Ports.
 Ado Bayero stated this while on inspection of the project at the Tin Can Island Port, Apapa on Wednesday.                                                                                                               
    The
contract for the rehabilitation of the 3.5km access road spanning from the
second gate of Tin Can Island Port to the PTML was signed recently to
ameliorate the suffering being encountered by Nigerians who use the facility
regularly.

Newly acquired Tug Boat – UROMI
The
managing director assured that the Management of the NPA had also signed a
memorandum of understanding with a road construction firm for a quick fix of
the Liverpool roundabout and other deplorable portions of the road leading to
Apapa Port.
The
Management of the NPA is currently collaborating with the Ministry of Works
through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to make the entire road
network within the Tin Can Island/Apapa axis motorable, said Alhaji Sanusi
Lamido Ado Bayero.
He stated
that the Nigerian Ports Authority being a responsible and responsive
organization will not fold her arms while the citizens of Nigeria paved through
the hurricane in an effort to make out a living through the Ports in Apapa.
While
welcoming the Managing Director to Tin Can Island Port, the Port Manager, and
Mr Babatunde Alonge, said that the Management’s quick response to the
deplorable state of the access road that stretched from Apapa to Mile 2 would
ameliorate the incessant sufferings of personnel of the NPA.
Ado
Bayero also inspected (2) No 60 tons Bollard Pull Marine Tug Boats recently
acquired by the management of NPA.
He said
that the acquisition of the state of the art tug boats was a milestone in the
Nigerian Ports Authority’s effort to boasting the effective and efficient
berthing and unberthing of bigger vessels in NPA channels as more tug boats are
expected to arrive soon.
The
managing director took an extensive inspection of the tug boats facilitated by
the Managing Director, Lagos Channel Management, Mr Danny Fuchs.

Ado
Bayero was accompanied by the Executive Director, Marine and Operation, NPA,
Engr. David Omonibeke; Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services,
Mallam Sanni Saleh; General Manager, Western Ports Chief Michael Ajayi and
other top management officials of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
