as the new Managing Director of
the Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA).

He took over
from the former managing director, Malam Habib Abdullahi
at ra brief handover ceremony which held at
the NPA headquarters office in Marina.

It would be recalled that Spokesman of the President, Dr Reuben
Abati, announced the termination of Abdullahi’s appointment on April 29 in
Abuja.

Abati also
announced the immediate appointment of the new managing director.

In a brief
address, the new managing director said he hoped to work at his best with the
staff to the best interest of the nation at large.

The new
managing director also solicited the support of the out-going managing
director, saying it was good to seek the support of someone who had experienced
the job demands.

He said, “I
hope we work together for the interest of the country because I know that
anything that affects this place will affect the larger society.

“We will put
in efforts to undertake programmes that will grow the authority through
togetherness.

“I solicit
your support; I wish the out-going the best. We will always consult because it
is good to consult someone who has been there,” he said.

He thanked
the President for the appointment and the opportunity to come and serve in this
capacity.

On his part,
the out-going managing director, thanked God for the grace and mercy  that saw him through the period of his
service as the NPA boss.

Abdullahi
described Ado Bayero as friend and brother, while expressing interest to
support him whenever necessary.

He also
urged the staff of the Authority to extend the same support he enjoyed to the
new managing director for the benefit and growth of the NPA.

He said that
the new NPA Managing director would need the support the more because he was new to the industry,
adding that he must not be left to fail.

“I thank God
for His mercy
and grace that saw me through the period I served as the Managing
Director of the NPA.

“I want you
to support and assist him like you did for me. He needs the assistance more
because he is new to the industry.

“My support
for the new managing director is obligatory, so I am ready to give my
assistance.

“Management
of interests takes much of the time, but the new managing director must not be
allowed to fail,” Abdullahi said.

He added
that beyond what people may think, the job challenges took 90 per cent, while the
excitement that comes with it is just 10 per cent.

“We have
gone through so many challenges and excitements, but I can say that the
challenges are 90 per cent, while the excitement is only 10 per cent.

“I will
leave it to posterity to judge our work. It is difficult to say goodbye, but
everything that has a beginning will also have an end,” he said.

The former
NPA boss thanked Mr President for the opportunity to serve and thanked the
unions for their support and times they assisted in addressing some challenges.

The maritime
workers union and the senior staff associations of the NPA pledged their
support for the new managing director, while bidding the out-going farewell.

Oduntan, the Executive Director, Admin and Finance, also pledged 150 per cent
