Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has released its
annual State of the Cruise Industry Report, which has projected strong growth for the industry in 2015.
CLIA member ocean passenger volume is expected to increase to 23
million passengers in 2015. The industry supports around 900,000 jobs worldwide and contributes US$38 billion in wages.
The Caribbean remains the most popular destination for cruises,
sharing a third of the global deployment capacity market share in 2015. However, cruises continue to expand into new growing markets like Asia. In 2015, 52 ships will provide 1,065 Asian cruises with a capacity for 2.17 million passengers.
Seven out of 10 cruise travellers will use a travel agent to
plan and book cruise vacations. 22 new ocean, river and specialty cruise ships are scheduled for debut this year.
