COVID-19 Pandemic: NIWA makes available water crafts to ease movement around coastal areas
The National inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has made available the Authority’s water-buses, security patrol boats and other craft for use by relevant states and Federal agencies in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the directives of the Managing Director, Dr. George Moghalu, the water crafts would be put to use as relevant health personnel, food items and medicament as needed would be moved to the riverine areas.
“These craft are useful for moving personnel and materials to and from the riverine communities, as well as maintaining security on our inland waterways,” NIWA said in a statement on Monday.
Moghalu also urged all waterways users to observe safety precautions, social distancing and other guidelines as given by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, in order to stay safe in these trying times.
