The
Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NEMA)
have set up a committee to advance effective strategy for maintenance of the
coastal areas within the NPA’s jurisdiction.

According to the statement, Malam
Habib Abdullahi, the Managing Director of the NPA, said the authority would
provide meteorological equipment to the pilotage districts to assist NEMA’s
duties within the coastal area.

Abdullahi made the disclosure while receiving
the Director-General of NEMA, Dr Anthony Anuforom, who paid him a courtesy
visit to his office at the NPA headquarters in Marina, Lagos.

The NPA boss noted that the improved
weather forecast aided by advanced technology could be achieved in the maritime

Abdullahi said that the decision for
the support was in line with the NPA’s Corporate Social Responsibility, and
considering the importance of the agency’s activities to the NPA’s operations.

It is expected of the committee that
