At The Marina Today: Milestone achieved as local communities endorse sea turtle conservation efforts in Akassa Kingdom

On this series of the programme, Sea Turtle Conservationist, Raynus Ebiegberi, shares some good news with us as local communities in Akassa Kingdom, Bayelsa State, endorse his sea turtle conservation efforts.
“Legislation has always been there,” Ebiegberi says, “But the people have never given it this sort of recognition. I think there is now a significant change from the local communities.”
Ebiegberi who manages the Safe Earth Foundation is particularly glad as some traditional ruler who is actively involved in supporting his conservation work, has made a portion of his building available for use to safely keep rescued turtles until he comes in to secure their release back to sea.
Women in the community are supporting this work significantly.
