Ilori’s thoughts on Jamoh’s appointment as DG NIMASA

By Emmanuel Ilori
Let us put the appointment of Dr. Bashir Jamoh as Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency ( NIMASA) in context.

There is an element of continuity, because Dr. Jamoh  has been part of the transformation of NIMASA.

So, we can say we are seeing a NIMASA that we expect to go to the next level, given what Jamoh would be bringing to the job. After all, we have worked with him and he has been a very

positive person who listens and is determined to make contributions.

When we had the former DG Dr. Dakuku Peterside, a seasoned politician, he did well because then the job needed some political input to transform the negative perception of the industry.

Now, we have the appointment of Dr. Jamoh. The important thing is for us to have an effective leadership. That is the key word. He is bringing qualities that we haven’t had before. He has
the political network and he has the administrative professional experience, having been in NIMASA for long.

On the Ship Registry progress, the important thing is that we want to see continuous improvement. Dr. Jamoh  believes in the progress of the industry. So,naturally, we expect to see continuous improvement raising the standard in the industry.

Marine Engineer Emmanuel Ilori has decades of vast industry experience cutting across highly-reputable organisations including Lloyd’s Register, UK.
