Customs FOU ‘A’ beats smugglers to their game, seizes foreign rice concealed in gas cylinders

The Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’
of the Nigeria Customs Service, has smashed smugglers in their deadly act, seizing
among other banned items, 1,393 bags of foreign rice that were concealed in gas
cylinders.

Contained in a statement signed
by the Unit’s Spokesman, Jerry Attah, Ag. Controller of Customs FOU Zone ‘A’
Usman Yahaya, has in his doggedness strategised and c
ontinued to clamp down on
smugglers in their activities.



He had recently showcased various
seizures made by FOU ‘A’ worth over N10 billion Naira, before this intercepted
1,393 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice, 187 jerrycans/66 drums of
foreign vegetable oil 625 Cartons of poultry products and 50 jerrycans of
foreign vegetable oil.




The seizures were made from
unapproved routes within Ogun State between 5th -17th February 2020 based on
surveillance and routine patrol.

The rice, vegetable Oil and
poultry products were conveyed in 12 different motor vehicles and also
concealed in gas cylinders with a cumulative duty paid value (DPV) of over N40.1
million.

The breakdown given of the DPV shows
that Rice is to the value of N27,860,000.00, Veg. Oil N6,284,250.00 and frozen
Poultry N6,000,000.00.

Yahaya promised that the Unit
would continue to hunt down the economic saboteurs who have decided on smuggling,
until they desist from the negative act.

Yahaya called on all meaningful
Nigerians to support the customs service in the fight against smuggling
activities, by providing intelligence that could assist the unit achieve more
monumental seizures.
